It was accepted wisdom in British Columbia in the 1960s that you
couldn't find anyone who voted for the Social Credit government, and
the polls always underestimated their vote share. Could be a bit of
the 'OUR son of a bitch' phenomenon in which no one wants to admit
voting 'short-term pain'.

right. Also, we need to get beyond restricting our attention to individual attitudes. What distinguishes the broadly Marxian theory from liberal theory is its emphasis on structural factors, as in "institutional racism."
