Re: China as a high tech source

Greetings from Kitakyushu, Japan. I am participating at a conference on information and comm technologies in Asia. We have several Chinese presenters from the industry. I also attended another meeting in DC where we had Chinese participants. I will briefly report when I get back. It would be foolish to think China is not upgrading. And they are doing it on a scale unprecedented anywhere so much so that Japan is almost being compelled to partner with Chinese production systems.

Cheers, Anthony

Marty, thank you. The exceptions that you mentioned were companies
that I might have been inclined to cite as "typical" successes.

Regarding design, I have been reading in Business Week about Chinese
success in doing design work.

How are the Chinese using all of the engineers & technical people that
they are training.

In any case, I am enjoying the responses.
