On the issue of fascism, there's an interesting opinion article by
Lewis Lapham in the current issue of HARPERS magazine. He argues that
the US has the best facist system ever!
I disagree with his definition of fascism as authoritarianism (so that
Stalin's USSR counts), but as usual, Lapham is fun to read. (I see
fascism as instead being a form of capitalism, an authoritarian
response to popular struggle, like in Jack London's dystopian novel,
THE IRON HEEL.)
