It is not that hard for good people to become co-opted by corporate
coddling.  10 or 15 years ago, an old friend asked me if I wanted to
join him in consulting with Robert Shapiro, who was heading up
Monsanto.  For a few seconds, I entertained the thought that I could
somehow steer the company in a more positive direction.  Had I
succumbed to myself flattery, I could've easily been co-opted myself.
