FWIW, free-market "libertarianism" is very attractive to teenagers.
It's consoling to believe that "greed is good," i.e., that one only
think of one's own wants, because the Free Market will provide. One
can be moral and greedy at the same time! Rand-type individualism fits
well with rebellion against one's parents, too. (while living in their
basement, natch.)
Of course, it does depend on the current Zeitgeist: despite
pretensions of individualism, teenagers typically want to be like all
their peers. Thus, teenage rebellion during the late 1960s was
different.
