Re: Invective
While I am sure Dean provides a certain level of emotional satisfaction to
the faithful, a job of the party chair is, I would think to, to expand the
party. And if you are the minority party, as the Democrats presently are,
that almost by definition requires a certain percentage of Republicans to
switch ships, especially in large regions of the country. I doubt
insulting the people you want to convert is very effective. The
Republicans appear to be much more serious about figuring out how to
attract existing Democratic constituencies than the Democrats are about
attracting Republicans.

My comments elicited this response on Marxmail:
Not that I care if more people are attracted to or repelled from the
Democratic Party, but Dean is an idiot. Claiming that most Republicans
"never worked a day in their life," thereby alienating millions of
working-class Americans who DO vote Republican, and then claiming that the
Republicans are the party of the "white Christians", thereby alienating all
white Christians from his own party.
If he REALLY wanted to tell it like it is, he would focus on ISSUES like
getting the hell out of Iraq, and the effect that spending hundreds of
BILLIONS of dollars has had on the "home front". Unfortunately, with the
exception of Social Security, where they're still putting up a fight
(thanks primarily to the fact that the vast majority of Americans are
opposed to Bush's plan), on all other issues they have either caved in (the
judge confirmation) or already agreed with (Iraq invasion) the Republicans,
so there isn't that much to say if Dean actually wanted to focus on issues.
