Fwd: The impotence and irrelevance of much of the U.S. "left"

Here is an example of a summarily asserted "fact" about Taiwan from one of
the "left" lists that just ain't so. This is so typical of much of the
left in the U.S. with time on its hands, a keyboard that gives a megaphone
(sort of) and that gives some so much assurance that they have all the
answers about whatever topic--eg. Taiwan or the real class nature of the
Chinese State or the extent to which capitalism "has been restored" in
China. I wonder if this individual know-it-all has ever been to Taiwan or
China.

Quote: I wrote: Obviously, these are important indicia, but it's up to the
people involved (the Mainlanders, the Taiwanese) to decide how distinct
they are, in a democratic way. One thing that should be noted is that
Taiwan has a "Formosan" (non-Han) population that the PRC lacks....

Pure bullshit.

When the Vietnamese were fighting for their lives, there was a chorus from some elements of the "left" in the U.S. sitting in their armchairs making pronouncements on how the Vietnamese should be running their struggle, making references to "Stalinists" etc without any care about whom and which forces of reaction they were giving aid and comfort to. It is all very sickening and but one more example of how much of the U.S. "left" will never do anything of significance except sitting on their asses and pontificating about matters and issues about which they patently know nothing. In the end, like many of the social democratics in Germany around 1933 many will be quite capable of switching to brown or black shirts and jackboots.
