Re: Lists of PhD programs

You could do something like this at the Energy and Resources Group at
UC Berkeley, where I am completing a very heterodox degree. My
adviser, Richard Norgaard, calls himself an ecological economist,
which means (among other things) that he integrates traditional
political economy into a very pluralist critical framework.

You could probably do it in geography at Berkeley too, where some of
the best political economists are (e.g., Michael Watts, who calls
himself a political ecologist, which to my mind is another framework
that integrates political economy with other cruicial perspectives).

And the real game theorists are available aplenty in either
agricultural economics or the economics graduate department, if
you've got the math skills (I flunked out of intro grad micro in the
econ department, and I was once really good at math.)

I am compiling a list for someone not on the list and would appreciate
receiving off-list either a pointer to or some recommendations for heterodox
PhD programs in the USA that combine political economy, environmental
studies, and perhaps some game theory (recognizing the ideological and
methodological problems of trying to cross-list that interest). I've looked
at the UMKC list and wonder if there's faculty in places like public policy,
ag/resource econ or geography that don't have enough critical(sic) mass at
their university in their econ departments, but perhaps have senior faculty
housed in other departments that would support a graduate student
application with a combination of those interests.

Thanks

Ann Li
