Recently, we paid big money to put bars on the windows of our house ... you can't be too careful now that Martha Stewart's out. (I wonder, did she make any money in prison, making license plates, etc.?)
Apart from the nominal earnings all inmates get, Martha Stewart will receive big money indeed from one thing she did make in prison: a new image for herself. As the NY Times puts it: " ... Ms. Stewart has used prison to soften her image -- to make her, in the public eye, a more sympathetic person than the perfectionist entertainer and executive she was seen to be before her sentence." <http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/06/weekinreview/06glat.html?hp&ex=1110085200&en=9102dddef4d46eda&ei=5094&partner=homepage>
If nothing else, the always-frightening Martha dramatically validates Nietzsche's claim in Götzen-Dämmerung: "Was mich nicht umbringt, macht mich stärker." (What does not destroy me, makes me stronger.)
