How many people are subscribed to the list? 800 subscribers
altogether? 800 scattered nationwide -- many of us without the right
to vote in the US elections -- can't make a difference in the
election by voting, to be sure.

rational choice approach to explaining political behavior, william riker
was major contributor to this development in poli sci field, his
co-authored (with peter ordershook) 1967 article 'a theory of the
calculus of voting' noted that chances of any one vote affecting the
election outcome exeedingly small, even in close race, therefore (r&o
asserted), folks (unless they had unreasonable expectations about
importance of their vote) could not be voting in expectation of
benefiting from outcome, whatever material benefits any individual might
receive as a consequence of policies adopted or blocked by election
result would be ensue whether individual voted or not, only rational
reason for individual to vote would be to gain non-material benefits,
such as satisfaction of "fulfilling one's citizen responsibility" and
other features of "civic virtue"... michael hoover
