Re: historical errors

what makes the Dems what they are?
Doug
<<<<<>>>>>

what makes dems what they are is that they are party of capital...

re. 1930s history, cp candidate william foster received about 100,000
votes out of 40 million cast nationwide in '32 (although party did
manage to elect only communist mayor in u.s. history in minnesota that
year), ...

cp opposition to fdr continued into '36, talks were held that spring to
run common socialist-communist campaigns, didn't happen of course,
although earl browder later suggest prez-vp ticket comprised of himself
and sp's norman thomas (with thomas at top of ticket, if memory
serves...

cp was still opposed to roosevelt when it participated in chicago
meeting called by minnesota farmer-labor party to discuss forming
national party, cp delegates at meeting held out for such independent
party but eventually concurred with consensus opinion that
labor/progressive forces were going to back fdr...

of course, cp transmorgified from offering 'critical' (and actually
quite reserved) support for fdr in '36 to deciding to dissolve party in
'44, post-browder era saw return of foster to power and adoption of what
even he later admitted was left-sectarianism...

in any event, cp would probably have been unable to withstand anti-left
onslaught of post-ww2 years irrespective of which political path it had
taken... michael hoover
