So what's the counterfactual? The CP didn't do that, and what happened? Socialist revolution?

At the very least, it would have had a mass political party of the working class that works both on the electoral and social movement fronts, allowing the United States join the ranks of normal liberal democratic countries such as West European nations and Japan.

This sort of analysis assumes that the Dems are the prime movers, the uncaused cause. But what makes the Dems what they are? Consitutional and other legal impediments, winner-take-all voting, a ruling class that's willing to smear and kill, etc.

Doug

All of them and more, as we all know. But complaining about them doesn't help us.

The plain old truth is that leftists in America have not done the
organizing to build our own political party.

Four tools of party building: pens, sign-up sheets, clipboards, and
flyers that advertise upcoming local and national actions and
meetings sponsored by your political party. This year, our task is
to make the best use of the four tools at Nader's and Camejo's
campaign appearances as well as all other events attended by actual
and potential activists and organizers of social movements on the
left.
