Of course, the Russian government seems to share a
bunch of the
responsibility for how Beslan ended. Not to mention
the doping of two Russian
journalists.

Their main fuckup was not keeping the (heavily armed)
townspeople away from the scene. (Then again, if they
had tried, the townspeople might have stormed the
school themselves.) Most of the chaos was the result
of the Beslanians trying to lynch the hostage-takers
at the same time as Special Forces were trying to
rescue the hostages. (I don't know how extensively
this has been covered in the States.)
