I think the opinion is wrong too. But Moscow does
complain loudly every time US officials meet with
Chechen rebel figures. Maskhadov's former foreign
minister was given asylum in the US a couple of weeks
ago. But I think it's more a shared pathological
anti-Russian conviction on the part of people like
Perle. I do not think the US is actively backing the
rebels. (Turkey, on the other hand...)
