Re: Whither America

The problem is that what Kerry needs to defend vigorously but can't
and won't is his anti-Vietnam war record, mistakenly believing that
what he needs to defend is his record of military service in Vietnam.
The campaign has missed the point -- hence it got Swiftboated and is
now sinking.

my post was not about kerry as candidate or kerry campaign, i
was on record early that kerry would be lame choice for dem nomination,
moreover, i've pointed out that kerry set himself up for something like
swiftboat (term very few had probably ever heard of until quite
recently) stuff at dem convention...

my post summarizing zogby poll in rep convention aftermath
offered evidence/suggested reasons for questioning newsweek poll (and
earlier time mag poll that had similar results but has been roundly
criticized as flawed)...

btw: i mentioned poli sci guys christopher achen and larry bartels
sometime ago and their paper ("blind retrospection: electoral responses
to drought, flu, and shark attacks") about the impact of 'disasters' on
elections, the two estimate that 2.8 million people voted against al
gore in 2000 because their states were too dry or too wet" as a
consequence of that year's weather patterns, achen and bartels think
that these voters cost gore seven states, any one of which would have
given him the election... michael hoover (without power - electrical
