Liberal Warmongers! Re: Gary Trudeau, Iraq and Nader

I was joking around, Yoshie.
My remark about families divided was also a joke -- a joke that tells
a truth about political organizing.
[Jokes that don't tell any truth are tedious.]
One of the most successful political agitators of his days reportedly
said: "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to
send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance
against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the
daughter in law against her mother in law."
But seriously I do not see why it is so hard to admit the obvious
truth that, among the millions of Americans who opposed the war in
the begining, there must have been at least some liberals, and
therefore the assertion that "all liberals are warmongers" is a
smear.
There were more or less only anarchists, socialists, diehard
religious pacifists, and other *illiberal* intellectuals, organizers,
and activists in determined, principled, and very vocal opposition to
the George W. Bush administration when the war on Afghanistan began,
with only a very few exceptions. Among the Democratic politicians,
only The Honorable Barbara Lee -- bless her soul -- voted against it.
That said, there are different sorts of liberals now, as we have
succeeded in sowing the seeds of a split in the Democratic Party:
(1) Those whom Lou called "professional liberals" -- Democratic
politicians, scribblers, etc. -- who are themselves warmongers.
(2) Liberals who supported the war on Afghanistan but are opposed to
the war on Iraq and yet are still voting for the warmongering
Democratic presidential candidate
(2A) and aid and abet the Democratic Party's trampling on the
voting rights of Nader/Camejo supporters.
(2B) but oppose the Democratic Party's trampling on the voting
rights of Nader/Camejo supporters.
(3) Liberals who opposed both the wars on Afghanistan and Iraq and
yet are still voting for the warmongering Democratic presidential
candidate
(3A) and aid and abet the Democratic Party's trampling on the
voting rights of Nader/Camejo supporters.
(3B) but oppose the Democratic Party's trampling on the voting
rights of Nader/Camejo supporters.
(1), (2A), and (3A) are beyond redemption.
(2B) and (3B) have a chance to redeem themselves in the near future,
that is, a chance to give up on liberalism and embrace democracy and
republicanism.
