Re: Gary Trudeau, Iraq and Nader

I think
a lot of our deep radicals are jealous at the popular mobilization
behind the ABB movement; we on the further left haven't been able to
rouse the rabble like that in decades.
I struggle with this every day lately, asking myself questions like,
"Has Michael Moore sold out? Or am I jealous of his success?"
35 years ago we spoke knowingly of "sell-outs". They were very easy
to recognize. A guy gets a good paying job and suddenly finds merit
in Nixon's wage control program. It used to be so recognizable, this
selling out.
Kerry will be better than Bush on health care a friend tells me. I
want to know what Kerry has done to establish himself as a health
care warror. Another friend, a 40-year associate of Nader, tells me
she's working for Kerry because of Supreme Court appointments. What,
I want to know, has Kerry done to establish himself as a warrior for
a fair judiciary? Other than vote against Clarence Thomas when it was
safe (his vote wouldn't have changed the outcome, thanks to the
numerous Democrats who okayed.)
In better moments, I think the media is the culprit. The ideas that
matter do not get discussed. Period. The context is under control.
And that, my friends, is the battle.
Perhaps leftists would do better implanting messages in video games.
