It is not a question of being discredited, but put into context. He
obviously came to Russia to further his business career. He prefers
Putin to Yeltsin for the same reason that Earl Browder's grandson
William, a venture capitalist in Russia, does. He is good for business.

No. Peter came to Russia because he wanted to return to Eastern Europe. He lived off and on in Poland throughout the 80s and 90s.
He's in Russia because he likes living in Russia. His income is not exactly gigantic.
He prefers Putin to Yeltsin for the same reason _anybody_ who knows anything about contemporary Russian history prefers Putin to Yeltsin, i.e., Putin is much better than Yeltsin.
