Not everything can be reduced to modes of production. In primitive hunting
and gathering societies there was homosexuality.

Actually, the bulk of the substance of what was written is about a society without a mode of production. Primitive man under more than less nature conditions. There are no homosexuals in this society, only people who have sex. Who these people sex with is no ones business and has not acquired a social meaning as such. Reproduction has not yet been ritualized and the division of labor has not yet assumed form.
