I just got an e-mail with this information:

A US company has filed a patent related to the medical properties of a
plant called Maca -- a kind of Viagra known to the indigenous Peruavians
since generations.  The plant is original from Peru and the authorities
here claim that the company did not even have a legal permit to take
samples out
of the country
