INTELLIGENCE
Agency Disputes C.I.A. View of Trailers as Iraqi Weapons Labs
This sounds like the argument in between government and the intelligence
services about the British dossiers - was the emphasis on deliverability
within 45 minutes in the September dossier, based on just one unconfirmed
intelligence source. Was the document "sexed up", as another possible
single intelligence source apparently told one BBC reporter.
What was the evidence that the academic paper could reasonably be amended
to change aid to oppositional groups to aid to terrorist groups?
The Foreign Affairs select committee is now going into secret session, to
hear again from Jack Straw. As the Chair is a member of the Labour Party,
it is unlikely that the final report will directly accuse anyone of lying.
Note also in the secret session they will be able to say all sorts of off
the record things about how the problems lay with US intelligence.
Note that they have not got into the Niger radioactive cake - which fake
information was given to them by the US.
The overall picture is surely that everyone was sexing everyone else up,
with the enthusiasm of imperialists with a raison d'etre.
