Anti-capitalist demonstrations again
For the second morning running the BBC has used the term "anti-capitalist"
for the demonstrations in France and Switzerland near the G8 summit.
In militancy by the most determined participants, and breadth of
opposition, this is a return to the global politics that were building
prior to the reactionary attack by Al Qaeda on Sept 9 2001.
Meanwhile there is a major financial meeting in Berlin with Alan Greenspan
participating through video link which probably signals consensus among the
central banks that Europe should now inflate its economy. (With Germany
having a better first quarter than expected, this may just suggest that in
the new balance of forces, the USA is not longer to be the sole "engine for
growth")
Yes suicide bombers are being crushed. Yes the unilateralists may have
achieved a breakthrough in rewriting the map of the Middle East according
to America's wishes. But the global agenda that was developing so strongly
up to August 2001 may, hopefully, be resuming.
