Seriously, the "Left" can't really be defined because the idea of a single left/right political spectrum is bogus beyond the level of cocktail-party conversation. Unfortunately, much of pen-l discussion is precisely at that latter level.
Or maybe we could say that the Left is in the process of defining itself, which might involve getting a new name.
