[PEN-L:33335] Frist's ideological state apparatus

Perhaps this has changed a little from when in 1970 at the age of 18, as
he proudly still lists on his CV, he won

1970 William Martin Award for best all around boy in the school
1970 John B. Hayes Award for excellence in the American Constitution
1970 The Civitan Award for Senior Class Citizenship
1970 Thomas H. Malone, Jr., Award for excellence in English composition
1970 Henry A. Fitz Award for journalism

all at Montgomery Bell Academy, Nashville, Tennessee

Appropriately he also won a prize for long distance running.

Founded in 1867 to cultivate "Gentlemen, Scholars, and Athletes,"
Montgomery Bell Academy has made a conscious decision to remain a school
for boys. Building upon its proud traditions, MBA is dedicated to the
ethical, intellectual, and creative growth of young men.

As Middle Tennessee's only boys' school, MBA offers an extraordinary
educational choice --- a campus where it is good to be a boy, where his
learning needs are the priority. Guided and nurtured by a faculty and
staff of admirable role models, boys grow into noble young men. They are
challenged to explore, to express themselves, to take responsibility, and
to become leaders. The rigorous classical curriculum includes a full range
of artistic and scientific studies and is supported by state-of-the-art
technologies and facilities. Students thrive outside the classroom on the
stage, on the playing fields, and in a variety of service opportunities at
school and in the Nashville community. Boys are free to venture across a
broad spectrum, to realize their full potential unencumbered by gender
competition or stereotypes. Thanks to this freedom, our young men are
successful in their individual quests for fulfillment. It is not unusual
for a skilled athlete to excel also in the arts, the humanities and the
sciences. A single student may play in a band concert, run in a cross
country meet, and be named a Merit Scholar in the same week. Preserving
the ideal of the modern Renaissance man, MBA encourages boys to pursue
moral integrity as well as excellence in academics, the fine arts, and
athletics.

Montgomery Bell Academy is a nonsectarian school with the highest
standards and achievements. So many possibilities are here. MBA welcomes
boys with great expectations.

It will cost approximately $16,500 to educate each MBA student this year.

The school is also entered by competitive examination, and the
well-organised web-site features multi-ethnic photogenic aspiring middle
class pictures.

Is Frist now more than the best all round boy?
