there's a very good interview with Harry Magdoff by Huck Gutman in October 2002's MONTHLY REVIEW that I missed somehow. Magdoff summarizes a lot of his experience with central planning. As he says, central planning of some sort is definitely needed. He also argues against bureaucratic planning.
