[PEN-L:29938] targets

The European Union claims that it is pushing to agree targets at the
Johannesburg summit and that the US is not.

This appears to be one of the major dividing lines in the response of the
capitalist (imperialist) world to sustainable world development.

It is a step towards the priniciple that Marx praised as socialist at the
founding congress of the International: social production guided by social
foresight. But of course there is a contradiction between this and the
private ownership of the means of production. I hope US citizens will show
their internationalist solidarity by supporting and promoting the call for
targets, without of course, tailing behind or relying on another
imperialist body like the European Union.

This is really a variant on the theme of the fact that even under
capitalism, markets have always been regulated. Laissez faire ideology is
an illusion, not in very good standing after US financial scandals.
