[PEN-L:29535] Re: Liu on Stiglitz
The incomparable Henry Liu wrote:
Stiglitz was a key player of the Washington consensus and an
architect of neo-liberal globalization in the Clinton White House
before he went to the World Bank
That's just not true. The chair of the CEA has little power. Within
the Clinton admin he opposed the Treasury's push for capital market
liberalization, but he was overruled. Stiglitz is no anticapitalist
for sure, but really, this sort of simpleminded accusation is neither
true nor helpful.
And he's making a significant contribution to making the world a less
brutal place - more than anyone on this or any other listserv. More
than, say, a certain hedge fund guy who lives on the east side of
Manhattan who issues grand pronunciamenti from time to time.
