[PEN-L:29512] New Navy Slogan...

"LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF THOSE WHO THREATEN THEM"

Just heard this lovely new tag-line on TV.

From http://www.cnet.navy.mil/newlondn/voelker.htm:

Navy Recruiting Efforts Appear To Be Back On Track
by Robert Hamilton
Day Staff Writer

Groton -- In 1998 the Navy was struggling to cope with a shortage of 22,000
personnel, which meant that aircraft carrier battle groups were going to
sea with hundreds of positions unfilled, and hundreds more had reported to
the ship within a month of its departure.

Now, the navy staffs up about 98 percent of positions in a battle group
several months before a deployment, and for the first time in 10 years the
service has met its recruiting goals for six consecutive months, said Rear
Adm. George E. Voelker, commander of Navy Recruiting.

After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, the Navy was able to scramble
dozens of ships to take part in combat operations on very short notice.

"Three years ago, we could not have done that," because the ships would not
have been fully staffed, Voelker said.

[...]

Part of the success also stemmed from the unveiling last year of a new
advertising campaign with the motto, "Accelerate your life," he said. Soon,
the Navy will unveil its latest marketing strategy, which will feature a
carrier coming right at the viewer, with the tag line, "Life, liberty, and
the pursuit of those who threaten them."
