This part is simply absurd! It's the software engineers, not Bill Gates
et al who keep Microsoft undemocratic?

It is worth remarking on this occasion that in May 68 in France the
_last_ workforce to abandon the premises they were occupying were the
staffs of TV stations. <

there's a group -- to which I and several other pen-pals belong to, BTW
-- called the "professional managerial strata," appearing in one of what
Erik Wright calls "contradictory class locations." (The Ehrenreichs
called the strata a "class," but I think that's a mistake.) These folks
share some of the privileges of management -- and thus, some of the
interests of capital -- while also being (broadly speaking)
proletarians. This means that like the classical petty bourgeoisie, they
are subject to conflicting class interests and can "go both ways." Even
when they side with the workers, they tend to do it in a patronizing or
top-down way.

this isn't useful.
