[PEN-L:28611] Re: Irigaray's feminist take on science
Irigaray's feminist take on science
----- Original Message -----
From: Devine, James
I have two comments on the posting below; they are off-beat because I don't know what they imply.
(1) Stephen Wolfram's theories have hardly been generally accepted; it's hard to justify Irigaray's
assertion on this basis alone.
==================
Wolfram's take on the ontological implications of computation and cellular automata have trouble
being accepted largely because of his "egregiously arrogant" personality. Kind of like how
researchers reacted to Gerald Edelman's theory of neuronal selection and the evolution of perceptual
and cognitive capabilities in humans and other organisms. Once you wade through the material it
becomes relatively clear that he's redescribing a lot of stuff that other researchers [Toffoli,
Lloyd, Friedken etc.] have also been struggling with. The ontological and technological implications
of CA's are pretty immense, imo.
