I find this statement troubling. It reminds me of the sort of
commentary you get on op-ed pages or Sunday morning television talk
shows. Those "combatants" you refer to were generally attempting to
eliminate the daily violence of hunger and disease that was the
product of neocolonial "peace". If anything, the collapse of the USSR
has made the world a more violent place as imperialism is freer to
trample on the rights of Palestinians, Iraqis, et al. The kind of
wars I object to are capitalist wars. Wars of social and national
emancipation are not only just, but imperative.
