Job Description:  Associate Director

Global Exchange is searching for an Associate Director to work
closely with
the Executive Director in managing and leading a national
organization with
a diverse staff of 40+ and a $6 million budget. Global Exchange
is an
activist based, human rights organization working for social and
economic
justice around the world. The organization¹s programs include:
Reality Tours: Reality Tours provide North Americans with an
understanding
of a country's internal dynamics through socially responsible
travel.
   Fair Trade program : Our Fair Trade Program helps build
economic justice
from the bottom up. Our two alternative trade stores and on-line
store
generate income for artisans in nearly 40 countries.
   Public Education :   This program produces books, videos,
articles, and
editorials; organizes educational events and workshops; and works
with the
media to increase coverage of international issues from a
grassroots,
citizen perspective.
Campaigns : are established to work directly to support partner
programs and
influence policy-makers.  Current campaigns include Mexico, Cuba,
Colombia,
Palestine, No More Innocent Victims, Fair Trade Chocolate,
Corporate
Accountability, the Fair Trade Coffee campaign and Global
Economic Justice
focusing on institutions such as the World Bank, IMF and WTO.

Summary of Duties

The Associate Director reports directly to the Executive Director
and is
responsible for program and fund development as well as external
communications.

Fund Development
o     Work closely with Development Director and other
development staff on
overall strategy and relationship building to ensure successful
implementation of development plans, particularly regarding
individual and
foundation support.
o     Actively seek out new sources of organizational funding.

External Relations and Communications
o    Oversee public education department and communications
programs of the
organization.
o    Articulately represent Global Exchange  in various public
forums and
encourage broad participation in our work and programs.

Program Development
o     Support junior staff members working in campaigns and new
programs
with clarifying program goals and other forms of program
development.
o    Ensure campaign work is effectively communicative to the
public through
well-honed messages and fund-able program descriptions and work.

Management:
o With the Executive Director, participate in the overall
management of the
organization, implement the strategic plan and translate
organizational
goals into work plans.
o Help develop and implement a hiring and retention plan which
promotes
diversity. Ensure that the organization reflects and supports the
diversity
of its community in hiring as well as program work.
o Partner with the Executive Director in development of vision,
long range
planning for the organization, as well as on-going organizational

development needs.

Supervision
ß Supervise Development Director, Communications Director and
possibly other
income generating program staff.
ß As appropriate and depending upon expertise, work with staff in
program
development and campaign work.

Other responsibilities as assigned by Executive Director.

Qualities and Qualifications
? A seasoned leader with the capacity to engage and inspire
people.
? Proven capacity to translate bold ideas into action.
? Experience that would demonstrate successful non-profit
management and
ability to evaluate and develop programs and campaigns.
? Demostrated ability to effectively raise funds in the
non-profit sector.
? Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including
ease in
public speaking.
? Well-established commitment to progressive social change.
? Strong base of knowledge in community organizing, social
movements, racism
and race relations.
? Ambitious, energetic and organized.
? Direct experience working in multiracial and multilingual
groups and
collaborations.
? Ability to anticipate upcoming events and needs of the
organization
ß Minimum three year commitment

Salary and Benefits
Salary: 40-45K. Benefits include: full health insurance, vision
and dental
insurance, 403 (b) annuity plan and up to four weeks vacation per
year.
