Doug, of coarse, the primary contradiction as mao would have said is Rightist Zionist Militaristic repression of the just aspirations of the Palestinian people. That said, I've been amazed even in my semi-cynical middle age to find more than a few progressives that invest such misplaced hopes in the corrupt leadership of the Palestinain Authority and are not conversant with the political cultures of too many of the Arab nationalist regimes that repress their own leftist movements with such ferocity that would make a Sharon or Netanyahoooo proud. I agree that there are many awful Arab regimes, and that the Palestinian Authority's leadership has been dismal. But it seems to me that there are better moments than now to make those points, especially since you can open the NY Times every morning and see them made with painful frequency. And given the way Zionists invoke the Holocaust to deflect any criticism of Israel, why play that game when the rubble of Jenin has barely settled?
