On an NPR program, an Israeli professor says, in response to criticisms
of Sharon, "yes, but he is a democratically elected leader and the
citizens can vote him out of they want to, whereas the Palestinian and
many other leaders of Arab countries are not democratically elected" as
though this implies that any atrocities a 'democratically elected
leader' commits are morally superior and more legitimate than, say, a
call by a non-elected leader for international peace keepers or
observers, etc.

I agree. Some of my Jewish friends were pretty
irrational about Israel as recently as six months ago,
but the latest turn of events seems to have been even
too much for them.
