WEF Counter-Summit and National Student Mobilization
==>Apologies for cross-postings. Please forward
far and wide!<==
World Economic Forum Counter-Summit and National
Student Mobilization
WHO: Students, faculty, labor, activists,
rabble-rousers, perennial malcontents and YOU!
WHAT: Two days of workshops, trainings and
speakers, followed by two days of action in
solidarity with Another World Is Possible! and the
Anti-Capitalist Convergence New York. Workshops
will be presented by local organizations including
the Coalition for the Human Rights of Immigrants,
the More Gardens! Coalition, the ProLibertad
Faltan6 Freedom Campaign and New York City Labor
Against the War, as well as national and
international groups such as People's Global
Action, the Rainforest Action Network, School of
the Americas Watch and the World Bank Bonds
Boycott. Confirmed speakers include Jaggi Singh
and Starhawk.
WHERE: Columbia University in New York City.
WHEN: From Thursday, January 31 through Sunday,
February 3, with demonstrations continuing on
February 4.
WHY: The World Economic Forum, a secretive
consortium of the thousand most powerful
corporations on the planet, has been effectively
chased from Davos, Switzerland, the normal site of
its annual meeting, by a coordinated campaign of
popular education, demonstrations and direct
action. Its move to New York is a hollow gesture
of "solidarity" with a city in turmoil: requiring
millions of dollars in public funds, the
militarization of city streets and the practical
abolition of civil liberties, this is the kind of
solidarity New Yorkers can do without. Join us as
we show the World Economic Forum that the struggle
for global liberation is not over; if anything,
it's only beginning.
