she says in this piece that while agreeing that the
proximate cause of the great toll of the 1943 bengal famine was wartime
deficit financing, the ultimate cause was the increased vulnerability
which resulted from lowered nutrition, as a direct result of secularly falling
per capita food output arising in turn from colonial export policy (a fact
totally ignored by Sen). sometime long ago she also subjected his
understanding of property rights to critique as well.
