The point (to the extent that we can speculate on it) of the attack
on the WTC must have been to create a media-genic spectacle
destroying a highly symbolic target (_the_ towering symbol of
_American economic power_, to be coupled with _the_ symbol of
_American military power_), rather than to kill as many Americans as
possible.  If the latter had been a point, they would have chosen a
different target (than the WTC) & a different tactic (than hijacking
airliners) that would have produced more casualties more easily.  The
corporate media obliged in creating the media spectacle.

It's dangerous to be browbeaten by the American media & politicians
into assuming that the terrorists were and/or are simply trying to
kill "lots of Americans" wherever Americans happen to be, for, if
that's the ruling assumption, you (as in the generic you) will be
more inclined than otherwise to accept the expansion of the American
Leviathan.
