I sometimes think that Mark Jones, Henry Liu, and Lou Proyect are
mythical characters created by Doug Henwood; time after time sensible
debate concerning Doug's positions is aborted when one of these
characters shifts the topic from political substance to Doug's assumed
personality: in other words, when they turn their attention to Doug they
forget everything they ever knew about politics and indulge in what seem
to me Henwoodian psychological nonsense.  They _Must_ be mere personae
for Doug. No one substantively opposed to Doug's politics would write
the kind of posts they regularly write when they refer to him.

Henwood was getting shoved against the wall
in a debate with patrick bond & Henry queered
the debate by coming up with perfectly lunatic
charges against henwood. Now he is lying about
it. The exchange among bond, rakesh, shniad,
& henwood, tho i lost parts of due to surgery
& a computer crash was one of the best i have
ever seen in cyber space until _henry_ ruined
it with personal, &  not only personal but
utterly goofy, attacks. He called Doug a
Suharto suppoter among other even goofier
charges.

I have extensive and perhaps deep quarrels with the views expressed by
Doug's Nation article -- but Mark's incontinent and apolitical attack
seems pointless except as an attempt to protect Doug's ideas from
critique by shifting discussion from politics to personalities.

Lou and Mark are going to destroy themselves politically unless they can
forget about Doug and go back to thinking. And in the process of
destroying themselves they certainly fuck up political debate on every
list with which they have anything directly or indirectly to do.
