I think that Ian's point is important. The nation-state, as such, is not
weak. The U.S. has cruise missles and bombers. Other nation states have
much less access to massive force. Grenada is weak relative to
multinational corporations, but in part because these corporations have
access to strong states. Also, corporations are turning to private
military corporations, which do have power.
So, I think that we might be careful about talking about the nation-state
as a general category and pay attention to the difference between
nation-states.
