In an article on the "Counterpunch" web site, the authors claim that
the above report was false. It was a lie told by Karl Rove, a White
House adviser, to William Safire, a columnist described as gullible, in
order to explain President Bush's flying around the country on
September 11. The Rove explanation was necessary to counter the
resulting political damage, according to Counterpunch.

Counterpunch says that the real reason why Bush on his flying tour was
that Cheney told him to. The article hints that this was an error of
Cheney's judgment and was perhaps influenced by grandstanding.
