What is anti-Americanism
This is posted with the permission of John Warnock: The Globe and Mail is a
Canadian national business-oriented newspaper.
Cheers, Ken Hanly
: Be sure to read the Globe's editorial today, "Please
don't blame the American victims." This is a good indication of the
political climate we are now facing. Jack.

>Dear Editor:
> I was born, raised and educated in the United States. I was in
> the U.S. Foreign Service and worked at the Department of State before
> emigrating to Canada. In 1965 I was asked at give a presentation at a
> teach-in at the University of Saskatchewan on the Vietnam War. I gave a
> historical background on French and then U.S. government involvement in
> Indochina. A group of professors then accused me of being
> "anti-American." At the time I was still an American citizen.
> Later in a press interview I criticized the U.S. government for
> the massive B-52 carpet bombing of Vietnam, Operation Rolling Thunder. I
> declared that this policy, which caused the deaths of hundreds of
> thousands of innocent men, women and children, was an example of "state
> terrorism." I was widely attacked for being anti-American.
> It did not take me long to learn that calling someone
> anti-American was the Canadian version of McCarthyism. It is an attempt
> to shut down all criticism of government policy.
> Sincerely yours,
> John W. Warnock
