Job Announcement
Study Director, Social Security/Older Women?s Economics Project
The Institute for Women?s Policy Research (IWPR) is seeking a Study
Director to develop and direct all research and outreach activities for
the Institute?s projects on Women and Social Security and older women?s
economics. This project includes quantitative research and policy
analysis on alternative proposals for improving social security to
benefit older women; research on older women?s economic status,
including pensions and assets in older age; public education on the
social security safety net as a basic resource for older women; and
outreach to involve and educate younger Americans about the importance
of social security as a fundamental safety net program.
Responsibilities include: designing and conducting research with large
datasets, providing technical assistance to national and local advocacy
groups conducting a media and public education campaign on protecting
social security; disseminating research findings about social security
to the general public, lawmakers, advocates and the press; making policy
recommendations on alternative solutions for improving older women?s
economic security; writing policy research reports; organizing
dissemination, research strategy and educational events; public speaking
and representing IWPR at conferences and meetings.
Candidate should have a degree in Economics, Sociology, or another
quantitative or social science discipline, have a deep understanding of
Social Security and other safety net issues; an outstanding research
track record; experience in an applied policy environment; familiarity
with federal and state policy processes and grassroots organizations;
significant experience relating to the media; and an ability to present
complex ideas in language that the general public can understand.
Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits include health
insurance, matching pension contributions, generous vacation, holidays,
paid sick leave and a transportation subsidy.
The Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR) is a public policy
research organization dedicated to informing and stimulating the debate
on public policy issues of critical importance to women and their
families. IWPR works with policymakers, scholars, and advocacy groups
around the country to conduct research, disseminate its findings, and
build a network of individuals and organizations concerned with policy
issues for women.
