why idiotic? There are a lot of secrets hidden away in piles of government
documents & official newspapers (the NY TIMES, etc.), as the late I.F.
Stone pointed out. That was the basis for his journalism.

But I agree that conspiracy theories are typically nuts, except for a small
number of specific events. Of course, one could view the entire CIA as one
big conspiracy. But to paraphrase that famous economist Mick Jagger, they
"can't always get what they want." They compete with other conspiracies and
are riven by internal disputes, etc.
