Re: Futility of alliances in global justice movements
This was an interesting article. At first, I thought it would criticize
individual organizations within the global justice movement that form
alliances with other such individual organizations.
Actually, the author argues that the global justice movement should not
form alliances with the "Post-Washington Consensus"(Paul Krugman), the
Washington Consensus, or the "Resurgent Rightwing." The author seems to
leave open the possibility, however, that an alliance might be formed
with "Third World Nationalism."
One interesting suggestion was an anti-Apartheid inspired campaign to
get institutions to divest from World Bank bonds, thus reducing the
Bank's credit rating to something below its current AAA.
As a preview from a forthcoming book, the full article is (again) at:

The new world order, the old world order, and their supporters are
quaking. The World Bank has now censured at least two internal,
dissident economists: Joseph Stiglitz and William Easterly. No country
has the ability to totally dominate the international scene like the US
did in the wake of WW2. Yet, many political forces have the ability to
inflict great damage on the existing system. I don't know how the
turmoil will end. One thing is for sure, though. This time, Bretton
Woods is *really* doomed.
