The last argument of the champions of overwork is economic necessity. A good reply is that by working less, people can get adequate rest. When they go back to work they will be more alert, have more energy, and be more productive.
on the other hand, if people are too tired, they're (1) more susceptible to commercial advertising and (2) less able to get it together to unionize.
