I have known Walden Bello for 20 years. Is one of staunchest people on the
left, with a mighty record of support--sometimes personally risky--for
labor, national liberation, antimilitarism, and all things good. Unless he
has pulled a Desai that I know nothing about, it is an utter canard to say
that he's backing the bosses. --jks

I found Steve D's original post unintelligible. But I think what he is
claiming that opposition to a pretended U.S. imposition of "labor
standards" on the Third World is in fact opposition to the Third World
having labor standards. In other words he is assuming that any
disagreement with the verbal play-acting of the AFL-CIO leadership is
the same as supporting capitalists against workers. If he means
something else, he should say so.
