Uzeyir Garih calls for equal income distribution
Ankara - Turkish Daily News
Uzeyir Garih, a leading Turkish businessman, has stated that
statistics that show 12 million people in Turkey living in
developed-country standards and 55 million people living in
developing-country standards represent a very interesting paradox.
Garih, speaking to the Anatolia news agency, defined developed
countries as those that have democratic regimes, a balanced income
distribution, produce technology and have a per capita income over
$10,000.
He went on to explain: "There is a developing Turkey with a population
of 55 million and a per capita income of $1,200. This segment cannot
produce technology. However, at the same time, there is a very
developed Turkey. It has a population of 12 million and a per capita
income of over $10,000, and it produces technology. This segment whets
the appetite of the European Union. This segment is equivalent to the
one in the Belgian economy."
Garih indicated that the greatest danger facing Turkey is unequal
income distribution. He asserted that this imbalance should be made
level, adding, "A good capitalist should certainly be a good socialist
at the same time."
