more on Oklahoma & RTW
Here's some more stuff on RTW and Oklahoma.
I misspoke a bit on the credentials thing.
They really are looking for economists,
though captains of industry and finance
might not be bad either.
>From an activist on the scene:
Oklahoma is holding a referendum on Right to Work
legislation on September 25th, and I'm working with the coalition
opposing RTW. The Oklahoma City daily newspaper ran an article yesterday
quoting the campaign manager for Oklahoma Families for Jobs and Justice,
the pro-RTW group as saying that
"Virtually every economist in the world will tell you right to work is
an economic benefit." He said it would not reduce wages and benefits.
"When you have more businesses coming into the state, they are having to
compete against the same employee pool. You can't hire people away from a
company and pay them less wages."
The coalition has asked me to help by compiling a list of
economists who do NOT think RTW is always an economic benefit. If
you'd be willing to help us out, or have questions about the RTW vote in
Oklahoma, please respond privately to faclongj@xxxxxxxx and I'll pass
along a list to the "No on 695" people.
(mbs) here are some more links:
"Distinguished economists in Oklahoma ? and across the country ? agree that
Right to Work is good for a state?s economy, creating jobs and growth ? and
that states that have Right to Work do better than states that don?t."
