Subject: [SP-USA] Stick it to Dubya
It's tax rebate season, and by now you've received dozens of letters and
e-mails from a variety of worthy organizations, asking you to stick it
to Dubya and use your money to support every cause that he's against.
We, in the Socialist Party, would have asked you sooner, but we've been
so busy working on our 100th Anniversary and Organizing Conference. By
now you've received a few news articles that demonstrate how, in the
words of "The Nation's" John Nichols, "The Socialist Party that was
born on the cusp of the 20th century has entered the 21st century -
younger, hipper and more relevant that at any time since party founder
Eugene Victor Debs declared, 'I am opposed to all wars except one ...
the worldwide war of social revolution.'"
Please help support our continued momentum. Consider sharing part of
your tax rebate with the Socialist Party USA, and help us put democratic
socialism on the political map. Now is a perfect time to support our
"100 Dollars from 100 Comrades" campaign. When other groups engage in a
fundraiser like this, they like to point out that $100 is not very much
to an individual, but $100 times 100 is a lot - $10,000! - to an
organization like this. For a party that's overwhelmingly composed of
working class people, we recognize that $100 is, indeed, a lot of money.
We're hoping, however, that when $300 or $600 is suddenly dropped in
your lap, that perhaps, for once, there will be enough money left over
after paying your bills to give something substantial back to the party
that represents your class interests.
And, boy, do we need that money. As we gear up for our October
convention, we need to ensure that there's enough money to pay for
materials, meeting spaces, pre-convention discussion bulletins, and,
perhaps, travel assistance for hardship delegates. As we prepare for
October's joint IMF/WB meetings in D.C., we need to make sure that
there's enough material for literature, meeting spaces, and, hopefully,
legal aid for those comrades who will need it. And throughout all of
this, we need enough money to public our magazine, "The Socialist."
We know some of you hate it when we sound like PBS, but we *do* have
some lovely thank-you gifts for your contribution. We have a new 100th
Anniversary T-shirt (red ink on white shirt; union made in the USA). We
also still have some Socialist Party sweatshirts left-over (Don't buy
heating oil; let the Socialist Party warm you ;-) In addition, we have
some multimedia gifts, including a 13-minute documentary on Socialist
Presidential candidate David McReynolds and an interview CD with
McReynolds. And, of course, we have lots and lots of buttons.
For a $100 donation, we will send you one garment and one multimedia
gift, of your choosing, along with some buttons. If you can't afford to
give us $100, these items are available for individual sale, and buying
them will help us as well. E-mail SocialistParty@xxxxxxxxxx about costs,
or go to our Merchandise section on the website:

Thank you for your continued support.
