Dear Penners - Can anyone out there direct me to information on realized capital gains -- i.e, how much income was reported from realized gains in the last several years? Is this available from the IRS? Is there info aroung that specifies the source of reported gains -- i.e., real estate, stocks, etc.? Hoping someone out there can save me some time searching.
The Congressional Budget Office has current estimates and historical numbers on this. The IRS also has it, but I think the CBO stuff is more up to date. If it's not on the CBO website <http://www.cbo.gov/>, they can provide it to you in spreadsheet form. I'd pass mine along, but it's a bit out of date.
